5 Ways To Relax and Get a Good Night Sleep Before an Important Event

All lives are sprinkled, here and there, with important events that you can’t (and don’t want to) miss out on. But sometimes, emotions get in the way, especially when you are the host of that event. The problem with those emotions is that they can sit in the way of a good night sleep. Worrying is a big factor for those sleepless nights, and that’s why you need to read our 5 ways to relax and get a good night sleep before an important event article!

1. Increase light exposure during the day

During the day you should take advantage of the bright light exposure as much as you can. Studies are showing that in people with insomnia, daytime bright light exposure improved sleep quality and duration. It also reduced the time it took to fall asleep by 83%. And it’s not that hard at all! Just skip your reality TV show before the day of your event and go for a long walk.

2. Cut out the blue light exposure in the evening

Yes, we know, it’s hard for you not to watch that last episode of The Crown, but I guess the baptism of your grandson is more important. Our advice is you skip for that evening the blue light for at least 2 hours before bed. The big problem of blue light exposure is that your brain receives signals that your body should be active. Meditate, relax your body or read some novel you haven’t had time to finish, it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s an activity that has nothing to do with electronics like TVs, laptops or smartphones.

3. Avoid heavy meals, caffeine or alcohol

Taking into consideration that the next day you may indulge in those substances mentioned above, it’s worth mentioning that for your body and your sleep, cutting heavy meals, caffeine, and alcohol some hours before your nighttime sleep can do wonders for you. Also, that goes with fluids right before bed. Try to not consume too many, as your body will suffer what is called Nocturia, the medical term for excessive urination during the night. Give your body some attention and your sleep will improve by miles!

6. Make your environment belong to you!

Your sleeping room should be the mirror of your personality and, besides that, should encapsulate everything you hold dear. But besides that, it has to be as cozy as it gets. Set your temperature right, get a suitable mattress and some fluffy pillows, get your Eye Mask or some new curtains, everything that makes you feeling like you’re in a palace! Maybe this sounds for something that should be done in a longer period of time, and it does, but once you’re done, those pre-event emotions will go flying out the door!

5. Try listening to a podcast or some relaxing music

Oh, technology, what would we be without your aid? Luckily, there are people on the internet that, just like you, may suffer from insomnia or another sleep disorder. Give this list of podcasts a look and your sleep will improve significantly! Besides that, you can give this list of Meditation Apps that help you sleep better a try.

Whichever method you choose, be sure to follow it consistently and not only before that day but include them in your daily activities.
